Do Mosquitoes Crave Your Blood Type?
It turns out that most mosquitoes are shallow and prefer some types of people over others merely because they taste better. Two University of Florida Entomologists have concluded that mosquitoes will always pinpoint a particular person within a group as having the most desirable blood.
Mosquitoes hunt for their nourishment by using their super sensory abilities to detect carbon dioxide from exhaled air. It is our breath that attracts mosquitoes to us, and lets them know which of us would taste best. This sense is so acute that a mosquito from as far forty miles away can detect a person’s breath.
A mosquito’s sense of smell is a highly evolved and is an effective tool for seeking out particular types of blood that would be most advantageous for the offspring of mosquito’s. This is because the quality of the blood consumed by the mosquitoes will have a direct influence over whether or not a particular mosquito can birth healthy or even live offspring.
