How The Infected Experience Zika
A journalist working for Reuters and based in Puerto Rico has contracted the Zika virus. Most people who are infected do not experience any symptoms at all, but the Journalist, Nick Brown was not one of them.
At first Nick experienced irritation in his throat, but he dismissed this pain as being the aftereffects of a cigar he has smoked. Soon he realized that his cigar had nothing to do with his symptoms as his temperature reached one hundred and two degrees. His night sweats were so bad that he woke up in a drenched bed. For two weeks after he noticed his first symptoms he developed red swollen eyes, skin rashes and redness and skin irritation on his reproductive organs. Naturally Nick told his family, and despite Nick’s initial disagreement, his mother had correctly diagnosed him as having the Zika virus. Days after his mother’s prediction he was officially given a Zika diagnoses.
Doctors were unable to explain why his symptoms disappeared for two weeks, and if he is at risk for Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Nick is currently serving as a model for Zika infection and scientists are learning, and will learn a lot from him.
