Cirque du Soleil Honors The Community Of Insects
Have you ever attended a Cirque du Soleil (CDS) performance? If you have you no doubt found the physical acts of acrobatics quite breathtaking. But what does this popular traveling performance art show have to do with bugs? Well nothing until recently as CDS performances are now exclusively about the beauty of the insect world.
The new CDS performance is called OVO, which is Portuguese for “egg.” The word “OVO” was chosen because a mysterious egg appears sporadically on the stage during the show. The significance of the large on-stage egg is to emphasize the continuous cycle of the short lived lives of insects.
The CDS OVO performance will be typical of their past performances. For example, the show will feature jugglers, clowns, aerialists, and contortionists. However, the OVO performances will be a bit different in that the performers will be dressed as crickets, scarabs, butterflies, and even the musicians will be dressed as cockroaches. Something tells me this could be propaganda aimed at consuming bugs as food, but don’t quote me on that.
Why would Circe du Soleil perform as bugs as opposed to any other type of animal/s?
