You Probably Have This Cricket Inside Of Your Home
Back in 1898 a biologist received an odd looking cricket that was sent to him from a Minnesota greenhouse. Since that time, these crickets have reproduced with great success, and they prefer to inhabit indoor environments. For decades people all over the USA have been catching sightings of this strange looking cricket in locations throughout their homes, but nobody was able to identify the insect, so the cricket has been given many names by the numerous people who have observed these bugs in their homes.
Currently researchers are trying to figure out how this cricket found its way from a single greenhouse to becoming a common household insect in many parts of the US. Additionally, researchers believe that there are two different species of this cricket, so the scientific community is urging citizen scientists to take pictures of the cricket, known as the “camel cricket”, so that the photos can be sent to scientists for research purposes.
Why have camel crickets enjoyed such a massive population boom since their introduction to America over one hundred years ago?
