Spider Expo Exhibits A Host Of Strange Bugs
An annual expo this year has changed the attitudes and beliefs that many people hold about spiders and insects. For example, a commonly seen docile arachnid from the Southwestern United States and Florida will refrain from biting you, but it will spray a vinegar like acid that is fifteen time more concentrated than the vinegar we use with our food. The acid has been described as feeling like a hole is burning into the skin.
Butterflies were also presented at the expo, and it turns out that they copulate for fun and not necessarily for the purpose of reproduction. Not only that, but the butterflies become overtly aggressive during the process. Male butterflies will attack each other until their wings are significantly torn and tattered. The females will attempt to get the male’s attention only to procure a nutritious semen packet from them, but they do not always use it to become pregnant, indicating that female butterflies can decide when to become pregnant.
