CDC Gives $184 Million to Protect U.S. From Zika
The Zika virus epidemic does not seem to be slowing down, and thankfully more money has been set aside to help protect Americans from this terrible disease. The CDC recently put aside $184 million directly towards keeping Americans safe from the Zika virus. The CDC is giving this funding directly to our universities, states, territories, and local government for them to use help better control the mosquitos and improve communication about Zika concerns and advice from health care providers to the general public. The money will also be used for improving laboratory testing, sending emergency response teams to places where the Zika virus breaks out, and creating a framework for us to better track pregnant women infected with the virus and whether their child is born with birth defects or not. $25 million is going specifically to the 21 communities that are in the greatest danger from the Zika virus currently to help them investigate any cases and quickly contain them. Prevention is the key at this point. We’re raising our defenses in the war against the Zika virus.
Do you think this amount will adequately protect us from being ravaged by the Zika virus? Is there more our government should be doing to ensure its citizens are properly protected?
