Jumping Spider Can Perceive UA and UV light
Jumping Spiders are interesting creatures. They arguably have the most acute auditory senses of any other spider. They possess a mirage of bright and colorful patches of furry hair to help seduce their lady folk, and their unique skilled dance moves also help to impress the female jumping spiders. You could say that jumping spiders are like the Don Juan of spider species. However, researchers have long been perplexed as to what makes the jumping spider’s visual system so special that it can perceive a range of colors that other spiders just cannot see.
Naturally, since jumping spiders possess a spectrum of brightly colored patches located throughout their outer body, researchers assumed that these spiders could perceive these colors. However, the researchers were eventually able to ascertain that jumping spiders can indeed perceive a multitude of colors. It turns out these jumping spiders possess this unique visual ability because these spiders use filters.
These jumping spiders have red colored filters that are located within their eyes and are meant to perceive green colors. Although these spiders can perceive UV light, and therefore they can see more colors than we can, you should remember that your eyes are one hundred times more complicated and you, unlike a spider, are ultimately able to perceive far more details in the world.
Are there any arthropods in existence that possess eyesight that is so acute that it rivals a human being quality of vision?
