Hospital Visits Over Brown Recluse Bites Has Been On The Rise
Last year two little girls were hospitalized after sustaining a bite from a brown recluse spider. And its seems that these dangerous spider bites are on the rise as yet another person was taken to the hospital as a result of a brown recluse bite
A man from Provo, Utah, Tom Green, was bitten eighteen months ago while sleeping in a hotel in the state of Missouri, where the recluse is commonly encountered. Green initially cleaned the wound himself and did not think much about it until the pain hit. Apparently, Green knew that his wound came from a brown recluse, but he did not know how potentially dangerous their bites were and how they could leave behind nasty wounds. After several reoccurring infections in his foot, which is where he sustained the recluse bite, and after several more trips to the hospital, the doctors decided that Green’s foot had to go, so they amputated his foot after months of pain. So don’t ever let anybody tell you that spiders are harmless.
Do you think that it is irresponsible to educate children to think that spiders are not dangerous? Why, or why not?
