What You Don’t Know About The Worlds Largest Bat
The giant golden brown fox bat (GGCFB) is a rare yet fascinating species of bat. These bats are sporting super-long wings that it wraps around its body like a cloak. When their wings are fully spread they measure an amazing five feet in width, and the weight around two and a half pounds. These bats are considered to be the largest bats in the world.
The GGCFB get its name because its face resembles, well, a fox of course. Their snouts protrude in a manner similar to that of a canine. They also have ears that are pointed like a fox, instead of being curved, which is the case with most species of bats. Basically, these bats look like foxes with wings.
When the GGCFB is on the lookout for prey it has been know to travel as far as twenty-five miles for the perfect snack—talk about a picky eater. When these bats do travel long distances they sometimes drop seeds from fruits that they pick up for quick meals. This seed dropping is actually beneficial to humans as this process aids in pollination.
Unfortunately, this majestic bat is currently in the process of going extinct. Due to its rarity, the GGCFB is often hunted by poachers. Despite the fact that these bats help with the cultivation of many different fruits, they are also in competition with humans for their fruits. When fruits are taken from the environment the GGFB has no way of nourishing itself, which has been a major force driving their extinction. Another major factor that is causing these bats to go extinct is deforestation. The GGFB is only at home in forest environments. Most humans are not aware of the benefit that these bats offer to humans and the health of the ecosystem. However, many of those who are aware of all that this bat does for humanity are doing their best to institute conservation measures that will ensure that the GGFB will one day thrive again.
