A Man’s Legs Were Amputated As A Result Of A Spider Bite
Well if you thought that spiders were harmless little creatures that could not cause any real health problems then you are mostly right, but only mostly. Spider bites are usually not terribly harmful to the bite victim, unless that spider is carrying bacteria on its fangs. Recently a man sustained a bite from a white tail spider, and now it looks as though he will be spending at least a year in the hospital as a result of the bite. Not only that, but this poor soul has also had his legs amputated as a result of an infection that was made possible by a spider bite.
It was not the spider bite alone that has caused this man’s health problems; instead doctors now believe that a bacteria from Asia has resulted in his long hospital stay. However, the bacteria may have been spread by a white tail spider. The man in question has had a rough vacation, and he, unfortunately, does not have the travel insurance necessary to cover his medical bills. As a result of his unfortunate situation, the man’s family is setting up a website to gather donations that will allow him to pay his medical bills. Initially the family planned on raising thirty thousand dollars, but now it looks like his medical costs could be much higher.
Not only do doctors think that this man will have to spend twelve to eighteen months in the hospital, as well as living with no legs, but they are now considering amputating both of his arms.
Doctors believe that the spider bite may have resulted in the rotting of his flesh, or flesh narcosis, which ultimately made his amputations necessity for his survival. The man sustained his bite while visiting his sister, so think about that the next time you tell someone not to worry about a little spider bite.
