Three Enormous Bird-Eating Tarantulas Have Recently Been Discovered
If you are afraid of spiders then do not look up “bird-eating tarantulas”. Three giant tarantulas have recently been discovered, and they could be the largest tarantulas on record. These tarantulas were previously unknown to science, and they even make up their own species.
These three spiders may have been discovered in the past and grouped with a family of spiders known as Avicularia. However, many academics are now redefining what constitutes being a member of the Avicularia family as this particular family contains many members that were incorrectly associated with the Avicularia back in 1918.
The Avicularia group of spiders prefer to dwell in trees and they consume a wide range of different organisms. Not only do these types of spiders eat insects, but they are also known to consume bats and small birds whenever they get a chance.
The very first species of Avicularia ever described goes all the way back to 1758 when a Swedish zoologist by the name of Carl Linneus first began to categorize different forms of life by species and genus. Today, the only information that experts have regarding the nature of the Avicularia genus involves such basic things as body length, weight, and feeding habits. Beyond these very few observations, not much is known about the super-sized Avicular genus of spiders. However, experts do know that the spiders belonging the Avicularia genus are quite large. These little known behemoths can reach lengths of up to six inches.
The three different tarantulas are, for now, being grouped with Avicularia until more precise data can be documented regarding the behavior and features of these enormous spiders. What the experts do know about the three mysterious tarantulas is that their body lengths range between four and six inches, and they all love to eat mammals, which is pretty creepy.
