Giant Asian Hornets Are Killing Scores Of People

You are all familiar with hornets. Hornets are often confused with bees, but the hornets sting is much more painful. There are a lot of different hornet types in the world, and recently one hornet in particular has captured the imagination and the fear of many people, especially among those living in Asian countries. The hornet in question is called the Giant Asian hornet. These types of hornets are no joke as they can kill you painfully and slowly, and they have been found within the United States.

Insect populations have been growing around the world in recent decades, and this trend is most likely due to climate change. Unfortunately, the Giant Asian hornet populations have been growing at astounding rates. According to Chinese sources, this hornet is responsible for killing forty two people, and injuring well over sixteen hundred people, and that is just over a span of three months. All of these victims hailed from the Shaanxi province.

According to Justin O. Schmidt, an entomologist from Tucson, Arizona, the Giant Asian hornet possesses a venom that can kill red blood cells, which can lead to kidney failure and possible death if treatment is not promptly sought out. If that is not enough, having allergies to the hornet venom can make a person go into cardiac arrest, or cause airways to close.

The Guardian has reported that twenty eight people have died and hundreds more injured after these menacing hornets rampaged a town in Central China. The residents of this Chinese town reported seeing hornets chase after them for hundreds of meters, and some people were stung in excess of two hundred times. The stinger alone on these flying pests measure out to be a full quarter of an inch long, so imagine being stung two hundred times by that!
