Could A Single Fly Crawling On Your Food Cause Health Issues?
Have you ever been out to eat only to spot an ordinary fly crawling about on your still-hot food? If we choose to eat outside, then we know the chances of seeing a fly on our food is very high. Unfortunately, this observation can also be made within indoor restaurants as well. We normally respond by brushing the fly aside, and then we keep eating. Afterall, how much harm could one single fly cause by crawling on a burger for a few seconds? Well, according to the experts, finding a fly on your food could be something to worry about. In fact, you may be risking your health by eating the food after the fly has gone away.
A typical fly carries around two hundred different types of bacteria, and these are the harmful kind of bacteria too. And this bacteria does not just come from the vomit that the fly spews all over your food before you swat it away, although that is gross too. Actually, the bacteria that the fly brings to your food comes from objects that the fly had landed on. Objects such as rotting dead animals, rotting food, and, of course, fecal matter. If you think that no harm could come from a fly chilling on your burrito, even if it si there for one single second, you would be sadly mistaken. Most people will not become ill from this scenario, but eating your food anyway, despite the fly’s former presence on your corn dog, could still be playing with fire if you want to stay in good health. It should be remembered that flies carry dysentery, cholera and typhoid, and those are just a few of the contagious diseases that you could contract by eating food formerly inhabited by a fly.
According to entomologist, Ron Harrison, only a single second or less is needed for some of the fly’s hairs to detach from its body and land on your chimichanga, and you already know what these hairs are almost certainly contaminated with. So the next time you swat a fly off of your meatloaf, think twice about eating it afterwards, and don’t forget about fly vomit either, you will be eating that too.
Have you ever consumed a food item after noticing a fly on it? If you have, then would you again?
