Neglected Children Covered With Insect Bites Were Found In A Home Crawling In Bugs
As the saying goes, “Cleanliness is next to godliness”. The truth in this somewhat abstract statement is obviously a matter of personal opinion. However, one thing is for sure, there is nothing divine about a roach infested home that is smeared in feces. These sorts of conditions are downright deplorable. Sadly, neglected children are removed from filthy homes frequently, and some of the time these children are sick and/or close to death as a result of their previous living conditions. When social workers successfully retrieve a neglected or abused child from a deeply unsanitary home, it is normally determined that the filthy home had a natural insect presence, as many types of insects are attracted to discarded food and feces. Unfortunately, this was the situation for two children that were recently removed from a filthy home in South Carolina. Once the children were rescued, social workers noticed the many bug bites that riddled the two kid’s bodies. These bites, coupled with the home’s unsanitary conditions, could easily have led to infections, but thankfully, the children were rescued in time.
Jenny Lynn Paradis, forty three, and her twenty two year old boyfriend, Joshua Palmer Vaught, were both taken to jail last week. The two were charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child, according to public records. Paradis was also charged for mistreatment of animals. After receiving a report of suspicious activity, Horry County Police responded to a call directing them to Paradis’ home. The police report from neighbors told about a foul stench that was emanating from their home. Immediately suspicious of neglect and maltreatment, the responding officer had a social worker report to the residence. Officers found several bags of garbage on the patio. These bags contained maggots; and urine and feces were present everywhere. One officer claimed that the home was “full of various insects.” The kitchen sink was full of dirty dishes and was inhabited by several different insect species. The children’s injuries were likely sustained from the bed bugs found in the home, and officials think that fleas were well represented in the home as well.
