Experts Claim That Bed Bugs Have Reached Epidemic Levels In One Highly Populated Midwest State

Having an infestation of ladybugs would certainly be preferable to having an infestation of termites, roaches or bed bugs. Of course, ladybugs are rarely considered pests, and they will not destroy your home or send you to the hospital. However, insect pest infestations are always stressful for homeowners, no matter the species of insect in question. Bed bug infestations have been increasing steadily since the discontinuation of pest control measures involving the use of DDT. Initially, bed bugs were only turning up in areas that see a high degree of human traffic, such as bus terminals, hotel rooms or hospital waiting areas. Now, bed bugs are showing up even in the most arbitrary locations, such as schools, government offices, and even within library books. Naturally, bed bug infestations are common in highly populated cities like New York and Chicago, but even smaller cities located in relatively cold climates are becoming havens for bed bugs. The rich and poor alike are falling victim to bed bug infestations, and there is no area on earth where bed bug populations are not increasing. Although the rate of bed bug infestations is on the rise across America, one state in particular has experts concerned about the possible public health disaster that may soon result unless a more successful bed bug control measure is quickly put to use. According to pest control professionals and entomologists, Ohio is currently seeing an epidemic of bed bug infestations, most notably in the state’s northeast region.

Lorain, Sandusky and West Cleveland are the Ohio cities that are currently seeing the sharpest increase in bed bug infestations. It is being reported that bed bugs are appearing in schools, stores and even doctor’s offices. There is literally no location within Ohio that is sure to be free of the blood-sucking insects. Bed bug populations are thriving within schools, as many pest control experts in the state have claimed that the insects often hitch rides to and from school on, or within children’s backpacks. Although bed bug infestations are increasing at various rates in different cities, Columbus, Dayton and the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metro area remain the most bed bug infested cities in Ohio.
