A Restaurant That Served Cockroach Curry To A Patron Was Closed By Health Inspectors And Declared An “Imminent Risk To Public Health”
Restaurants can become busy places during the weekends, and there is typically no more than five or six cooks working in a restaurant kitchen during the busiest hours. Considering the high volume of food that is served in restaurants, mistakes are sometimes made when it comes to a patron’s order. However, you would think that cooks could manage to keep giant cockroaches out of the food that they prepare, but surprisingly, finding cockroaches within restaurant food is more common than anyone would like to assume. Recently, health inspectors stumbled upon what may very well be the worst cockroach infestation ever to occur within a restaurant. The infestation first came to the attention of authorities after a cockroach popped out of a mound of curry served to a patron of the restaurant.
It did not take long for a team of health inspectors to decide that closing the popular Indian restaurant that served a cockroach to a patron was the best choice. The restaurant is named Diss Tandoori, and the leading health inspector at the restaurant called the cockroach infestation the worst that he had ever seen during his long career. In fact, the inspector even went as far as to claim that the eatery posed an “imminent public health threat.” The inspectors found an “army” of cockroaches gathering near Korma, which is a popular Indian dish. This finding, along with the cockroach in the patron’s curry, prompted Magistrates to grant the South Norfolk Council the authority to close the restaurant. Environmental health officer Annmarie O’Toole claimed to have found a “rug” of cockroaches hopping in the restaurant’s poppadom warmer. A total of 50 cockroaches were found in one single tub of rice, and others were crawling over onions. The infestation was so well established that the cockroach inhabitants underwent their full life cycle with the restaurant. The restaurant was notably filthy and garbage had been strewn about the place. The leading health inspector claimed that the restaurant posed an immediate public health risk.
