As A Result Of Being Named The Most Roach Infested State In America, Texans Are Celebrating Roaches In Some Bizarre Ways
Texas is the hottest and most urbanized state in America. Six Texas cities are included on the top 20 list of the most populated cities in the United States. These two factors, in addition the state’s enormous size, is why Texas is home to more cockroach specimens than any other state in America. It is estimated that the state contains trillions of individual cockroaches, and Austin, Texas is popularly known as the cockroach capital of the world. In fact, Austin holds the record for the greatest number of roach specimens found within one single house. This house contains at least 50,000 cockroaches, but some experts believe that other Texas cities, such as Houston and Dallas, may contain homes that are even more cockroach infested. Cockroaches are a natural part of life for residents of Texas, and after being named the most roach-populated state in America, embracing the notoriously hardy insects has become a fashionable social trend in the state.
Several different social groups in Texas actively honor cockroaches. For example, college students celebrate the insects with annual games and glitzy ceremonies. Texas artists honor the insects by immortalizing them in paintings, poetry and lyrical music. It is also not hard to find comics, clothing and embroidered patches featuring the revered insect in Texas. Although all of this enthusiasm for what is generally regarded as the most hated insect pest may surprise non-Texans, cockroaches have been culturally revered in many other parts of the world as well. In Finland, and several other European countries, cockroaches used to be considered protectors of life, and they were allowed to move about freely within homes, even within the homes of the wealthiest citizens. However, it is important to remember that cockroaches are one of the filthiest insects that exist, as their name derives from the Spanish word “cucaracha,” which derives from the Spanish word for “excrement”.
Do you believe that cockroaches are responsible for more human illnesses than is currently believed?
